It is late. You had opened the app for a precise reason, a message to send, a fact to check, and that reason dissolved long ago. Since then your thumb has been scrolling the feed, image after image, outrage after advert, without your really deciding it. You are not captivated, nor are you bored: you are simply there, held. Part of you would like to put the device down; another part is waiting, without admitting it, to see what the next thumbnail will show. You look up: half an hour has passed, and you would be hard pressed to say what you saw. What do you make of this moment?
